Committees

President Kimberly Andrews Espy convenes various committees to investigate and provide counsel on subjects of interest. The standing committees listed below address topics of abiding interest to the president and the entire campus.

President Espy is committed to creating a more equitable society, and our academic community at Wayne State aspires to be a national model in this shared work. Wayne State's Social Justice Action Committee was convened in June of 2020 and presented its findings, recommendations and action steps in March of 2021, which are being progressively implemented across campus with the support of the DEI Council.

The Commission on the Status of Women advises the Office of the President and the larger campus community on issues facing women students, staff, faculty, and alumni including gender equity and equality, social justice, and intersectionality. The Commission advocates for women through programming, university service, outreach, research, and policy recommendations.

The President's Standing Committee on Environmental Initiatives was established to integrate green practices into campus operations, increase knowledge and awareness of environmental stewardship within the university community, and immerse sustainability concepts, values and innovations into academic courses offered and research conducted by the university.  The committee also is charged with oversight, tracking, and reporting of the 2017-22 Sustainability Strategic Plan.

The President's Community Advisory Group was formed so that community leaders could provide feedback and insights to the president and the Office of Government and Community Affairs regarding the university's current strategic plan, mission and other university priorities, and also assist with their implementation. WSU's community outreach efforts focus on the neighborhoods surrounding its main and satellite campuses, as well as the metro Detroit area as a whole.

The Murray E. Jackson Creative Scholar in the Arts Award Committee is responsible for selecting a faculty member to receive this annual artist-in-residence award.  This program showcases exceptional faculty talent in the performing, creative, and visual arts, while also cultivating a creative learning community on campus.
