In my first address to the Wayne State University community after becoming president, I described the combination of attributes that makes WSU unique. It's a public, urban research university that is deeply connected with its community, and historically a place of opportunity for a broad range of students. I stated our collective vision as becoming the pre-eminent public, urban research university in the country. This is a bold vision, and we can only accomplish it by working together in a focused and collaborative manner.
It will take all of our best efforts and a shared understanding of where we're going, and how to get there. To help us develop this understanding, I have asked a group of leaders from across the campus to guide a strategic planning effort. We will gather input from all of WSU's stakeholder groups, including students, faculty, administration and staff, alumni, the Board of Governors, and members of the community. This process will be transparent, and we will post input from the various stakeholders and updates of the draft plan on this site. We began this effort by gathering feedback from across campus through a strategic survey, but you can post additional comments on this site if you wish. We anticipate this process will take approximately six months, after which we will have one, shared, strategic plan by which we will steer our efforts toward our collective vision.
Thank you for your input as we develop this plan, and thank you for all you do for Wayne State University.
M. Roy Wilson
