This just in: More awards for WDET

WDET-FM, a public service of Wayne State, was recognized for broadcast excellence with four awards from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters (MAB) and four awards from the Michigan Associated Press (MPA). From the MAB, the station won top honors in the community involvement category for its participation and sponsorship of the Story Corps Griot Project – an oral history project dedicated to collecting the stories of African Americans for permanent archive in the Library of Congress. Other awards were for mini-documentary/series; special programming; and membership appeals. MPA presented awards for best spot news; best news documentary; general excellence award; and newscast. The Society of Professional Journalists Detroit Chapter also presented WDET with awards for investigative reporting; general news reporting; features reporting; newscast; and spot news reporting.
