TechTown grant supports new businesses

A $625,882 grant from the Detroit City Council will help TechTown, the university’s research and technology park, bring more companies into its Detroit-Based Initiative (DBI) business growth program. The money will support programs focusing on creating new businesses, particularly those started by women and minorities. The DBI program provides essential resources such as business plan assistance, grant-seeking and management, market research, financial plan modeling and executive coaching to emerging companies at critical stages of development. The program has enrolled a dozen companies since its founding in 2007.
