A Kahn hosts the police

Police headquarters

Board of Governors Chair Eugene Driker (center), Police Chief Anthony Holt and President Irvin D. Reid help cut the ribbon at the opening of the new police headquarters.

In 2008 a 1924 Albert Kahn-designed building was refurbished into a new home for the WSU Police Department, providing the squad with the high-tech headquarters it has needed for so long. Located at 6050 Cass Ave., the updated digs include fiber optic and wireless Internet access; an electronics repair shop; secure indoor parking for patrol vehicles; canine quarters; three holding cells; multipurpose room with overhead media projection system; gym; and secure rooms for evidence and weapons lockup. The project restored the building to some of its previous grandeur with updates to the central grand staircase and skylight and improved wood and marble wall treatments, terrazzo flooring, ornamental plaster column capitals and cornices.
