African Americans have a higher risk of developing high blood pressure, the leading risk factor of cardiovascular disease, than other ethnic groups, according to the American Heart Association. A study lead by Dr. John Flack, chair of internal medicine, indicates that a new combination of drugs (a calcium blocker and an angiotensin II reception blocker) causes the most significant drop in blood pressure.
