The first study of war-related mental disorders among Iraqis 10 years after the Gulf War has been published by WSU researchers in collaboration with Basrah Medical College in Basrah, Iraq. The study focused on whether soldiers deployed closer to the war’s epicenter exhibited more mental health disorders as compared to soldiers deployed further away, as well as whether mental health disorders differ between Iraqi soldiers deployed during the Gulf War compared to Iraqi civilians. The study was led by Bengt B. Arnetz, professor of family medicine and public health sciences in the School of Medicine.
